From the Grand Union to the Stratford Canal

Sunday 6th May

Summer has arrived early and brilliant, hot sunshine was either us as we journeyed towards Kingswood junction where we left the wide Grand Union to venture on to the tranquil and narrow Stratford Canal. It was a joy to be back on single locks but this joy soon left us on encountering slow filling locks and poorly maintained  paddle gear. However,  we made slow progress down this charming and picturesque canal. We finished our day at Low son Ford and and enjoyed our first bbq of the season in the beautiful warm sunshine.

Kingswood Junction

The warm weather has certainly bought the countryside alive and the colours and fragrances are just fabulous.

Keeping cool!

Looking for supper - what type of hawk is this?

A barrel-roofed lock keeper cottage

Monday 7th May

The temperatures continue to climb giving the country record breaking temperatures for this early May Bank Holiday.
We have made the most of these ideal cruising conditions along this beautiful canal with the distinctive barrel roofed lock keeper cottages dotted along the way. There are few other narrowboats out at present so have had no queueing at the numerous locks and have found all the moorings very quiet. Actually perfect!
