Over the past few years we have had a trip up the Caldon Canal on our travel plan but for one reason or another we have never made it that is until now.
Our journey from Barlaston to Etruria seemed to take forever. There were queues at the locks ( which Sid and Jenny try to avoid) and we followed a real slowcoach throughout this stretch. By the time we reached Stoke Top lock we had had enough and after turning onto the Caldon we picked up a mooring despite it being rather early in the day. The sun had come out and we spent the afternoon pottering and Jenny was just trying to sort out her 'garden' when we heard a quiet knock on the boat. It was Penny from nb Campanula who we had got to know whilst painting Hunters Moon a couple of years ago. We spent a lovely couple of hours catching up and sharing travel plans.

The following day heavy rain was forecast for later in the morning so we set off early with the plan to get to Milton before the rain set in. The plan worked except for mooring in Milton, all the moorings were full, but we travelled on towards Engine Lock and found a very pleasant, open mooring just below the lock. Then the skies opened so our timing was perfect. We are now warm and cosy with the fire glowing listening to the heavy drumming of the rain on the roof. Good old British summer weather! More rain forecast for tomorrow!
